A lamp inspired by sustainability and the beauty of the moon.

Vast amounts of material end up discarded, even though much of it holds the potential for new life through design. Luna explores this possibility by reclaiming aluminum scrap from a local scrapyard and shaping it into a moon-inspired spotlight. Its soft glow evokes the quiet presence of moonlight, while the sandblasted finish recalls the cratered texture of the lunar surface.

Physical Prototyping

The design was refined around the constraints of the recycled aluminum. In this stage, the optimal proportions and stability were tested to ensure the lamp could pivot and be used as directional lighting.

Moon Visual Study

Capturing the essence of the moon was important in ensuring a compelling and relatable story for Luna. These moon studies were done to create branding and develop a visual language. These guided the art direction for how the final product was revealed and showcased.

Takeaways

- Developed a repeatable manufacturing process to increase efficiency when producing in bulk.

- Learned how to transform reclaimed materials into refined, functional design outcomes.
