A sleep focused Amtrak coach redesign.

Sleeping while you travel is an underwhelming experience at best, miserable at worst. The rail system in America is an underutilized resource for passenger travel, yet little emphasis is placed on designing for night journeys. Standard seating leaves passengers restless, while private rooms are limited and expensive. There are few options that make overnight train travel both comfortable and accessible. This leaves a critical gap in how people rest on the rails.
Problem

Once a symbol of American adventure and romance, train travel has become an outdated, uncomfortable relic.

Takeaways

-Researched how passengers experience overnight rail travel, identifying barriers to rest and comfort.

-Designed for human rituals of sleep, drawing from architecture, psychology, and transportation precedents.

-Developed concepts that balance affordability, accessibility, and spatial efficiency within the rail environment.
